****Sounds like: Underwater Dead Girl Space Island Wormhole****
Sarah originally wrote this song on guitar. She played it for me and I got an island vibe from the melody, so I chose island-y synths for the opening of the song and on the verses.
Sonically "Spells" takes a killer left turn down a f*cking wormhole and into some crazy sampling and a super cool and strange electric beat. This is one song where all of us were involved in it coming to life, and it's one we're very proud of!!!
We play it completely different live because this type of production is impossible to imitate in a completely live setting without a computer, but the live version is very very special and beautiful in its own right.
lyrics
I paint my nails,
And it looks like blood.
Your skin is turning blue;
I guess you must have
Needed oxygen.
You looked so cute
While I held your hand.
Lacing fingers as we
Travel to another dimension.
I won't forget you--
The fumbles in my car.
I won't let you
Get away too far.
When dreams have passed
And your body is lying still,
I'll come for you, baby,
And show you the world I hid so well.
At my last breath
When it is time to pay my bill,
I'll come for you, baby,
And put you back under my spell.
You left so long ago,
I don't remember when.
I smoked a cigarette,
And turned the light out;
No one's coming in.
I must have slept
While your eyes turned grey.
My head was in the clouds
And missed the sign that said
You weren't coming back.
(x2)
I won't forget you--
The fumbles in my car.
I won't let you
Get away too far.
When dreams have passed
And your body is lying still,
I'll come for you, baby,
And show you the world I hid so well.
At my last breath
When it is time to pay my bill,
I'll come for you, baby,
And put you back under my spell.
